Difficult Problem 2.

Derek is twice as old as Bill was when Derek was as old as Bill is now:
The combined age of Derek and Bill is 56 years.
How old are Derek and Bill now?

The solution will be on the blog soon or someone may offer up the solution sooner than that!

Can you solve it?

With Algebra and not by trial & error?

Build a house in 4.8 days

Difficult Problem solution.

Let D= Derek’s age, B= Bill’s age and x= the number of years ago when Derek was as old as Bill is now.
1.        1.           D=2[B-x]
2.        2.           D+B= 56
3.        3.           D-x= B
Solve D=32 B=24

The difficulty is in the wording but the wording is correct. This comes from Bolton University
